James paints with acids on the metal surfaces using different techniques in the creation of his work; photography, laser cutting, silk screening, etching.

Contours:

continents, islands & lakes.

These artworks carved in steel explore the delicate balance in our world. In the most obvious way, the negative work challenges the representation of land and water. Multiple shadows created on the wall reminds us of change, fluidity and movement. Highly contrasting with the nature of the material chosen by the artist. These oppositions can also be felt between the sense of belonging to a part of the world and it's absence. The shadows leave a trace, memories of a significant place.

The steel

All sculptures are made of steel plates carefully selected by the artist for their visual aspect, textures and physical properties. The material is part of every composition. Occasional marks in the steel also reflect the industrial path chosen by the artist.

Although natural aging is part of the work, a varnish has been applied on the steel to slow the natural oxidation. If James Kennedy’s steel artwork is kept in a dry environment, it will stay as is. It is important to avoid touching the work with bare hands or to use water or any abrasive products on the work as this can take away the finish and mark the steel. Some oxidation can occur over time.
