About Contours

(Continents, Islands & Lakes)

The series explore the opposites. In the most obvious way, the negative work challenges the representation of land and water. Multiple shadows created on the wall reminds us of change, fluidity and movement. Highly contrasting with the nature of the material chosen by the artist.

It also plays on oppositions between a sense of belonging to a certain part of the world and a lack of orientation. With no map to refer too, where is that place really?

I’ve always been drawn to abstract forms and what our imagination can make of it. In this series, the cutouts give a meaning to the steel while it’s surface patterns and casted shadows suggest the original abstract forms created by earth and water.
